BELFAST – WCAP’s MidCoast Public Transportation invites you to help improve access to public transportation in Knox County and beyond.

Please join the conversation on Wednesday, October 16, in-person, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Rockland City Office, 270 Pleasant Street, for the Knox County Public Transportation Advisory Work Group (K-TAWG). The Work Group is the platform for MidCoast Public Transportation to create partnerships with the broadest possible participation, including with municipalities, civic groups, planning groups, elected officials, non-profit organizations, for-profit organizations, professional organizations, state agencies and residents, to increase access to reliable public transportation for community members.

WCAP invites public participation in monthly work groups, focusing on:

Route and rate development: Help build the right transportation routes and schedules. Help determine where the bus needs to stop and when, and how much a ticket should cost.

Communication and coordination: Help to better coordinate between people who need to go places and where they need to go in the mid-coast region. Help to spread the word about available schedules and routes and help more people gain access to reliable transportation.

Funding resources: Public Transportation is vital to a vibrant community, but also very expensive. Help to find and secure funding opportunities in the community and beyond, small and large, to build and maintain public transportation for everyone in Midcoast Maine.

Coordination with regional planning efforts: MidCoast Public Transportation partnered in 2024 with MidCoast Council of Governments and Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission to develop a MidCoast regional transit coordination plan. The partnership has been awarded a US DOT multi-year “Thriving Communities” grant to work focused on developing long-term local and regional transit solutions.
