Dear Valued Community Member, When Kelsey fled from a bad situation with her baby, she came back to the familiarity of Belfast where she grew up. She was destitute, living in her car, and sleeping in parking lots with a knife in her hand for protection – if she could sleep at all. Kelsey felt hopeless, scared, and a lot of the time, hungry. School supplies will be available free of charge to income eligible families living in Waldo County. We'd like to express our sincere gratitude to the community partners and volunteers involved in the Neighbor 4 Neighbor program. This year, the program provided 750 households with Thanksgiving baskets, 943 households with holiday food for the Christmas season and 901 children with gifts. From the fire departments and volunteers who help us deliver holiday food boxes countywide to the many businesses, organizations, and individuals who purchase gifts for kids, this program is truly a community effort. Get ready to get back-to-school with free backpacks and school supplies provided by WCAP! FREE to Mainecare and WIC eligible children ages K-12 who live in Waldo County.
