Prospective homebuyers whose lender or mortgage assistance program requires them to attend a HUD approved homebuyer education class no longer need to travel outside Waldo County to fulfill requirements. First Time Homebuyer classes are now available right here in Belfast, through Waldo Community Action Partners (WCAP).
After completing a year-long certification process, WCAP is an officially certified HUD Housing Counseling Agency and hoMEworks Certified Agency now offering First Time Homebuyers courses once a month. Additionally, the agency’s full-time certified housing and financial counselor, Bjorn Streubel, is able to assist with a wide variety of topics. Bjorn holds certifications from HoMEworks Network of Maine and NeighborWorks Training Institute for housing counseling and foreclosure counseling.
Streubel works one on one with clients who need to deal with mortgage foreclosure, foreclosure mitigation or diversion, and property tax foreclosure mitigation. Individual assistance is also offered to create household budgets, repair or build credit, and preparations to buy a home. “Those are the names of the things we do but the biggest thing we do is share knowledge and remove the fears of the unknown,” Streubel stated.
All Waldo County residents are eligible to take advantage of these free or near free services. For more information or to make an appointment contact Bjorn at 338-6809 ext. 515.
Upcoming First-Time Homebuyers classes include:
– August 5 & 6
– September 9 & 10
– October 14 & 15
– November 4 & 5
– December 2 & 3
All classes are held from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the WCAP Conference Room (Suite 206) at 9 Field Street in Belfast. To register, visit the Financial Education webpage of WCAP’s website at https://waldocap.org/?page_id=2346, e-mail dstreubel@waldocap.org, or call (207) 338-6809, ext. 515.
