Due to a great response to its April volunteer recruitment campaign Waldo Community Action partners have decided to add to the list of public information meetings. Due to need county-wide, interested area residents can look for upcoming meetings in Belfast, Liberty and Unity.

Waldo Community Action Partners (WCAP) is currently looking for reliable volunteer drivers to provide valuable support services to our community by picking up and driving people to medical appointments and family visits using their own vehicles. The program is a valuable service to the community and directly improves the quality of life for many of our friends and neighbors every day.

All WCAP volunteer drivers receive tax exempt reimbursement for miles traveled at $.44 cents per mile and free training in CPR, First Aid, Passenger Assistance techniques, Communication, DHHS Child Transport, Securing Child Car Seat, and emergency vehicle evacuation procedures.

“The WCAP transportation program is not just of great value to people who need rides,” says WCAP Transport Program Director, Edward Murphy. “Apart from the satisfaction of knowing that you help someone in a very direct way, all of our volunteer drivers earn money tax free that does not affect any other benefits. It’s a great way to make a positive difference in someone else’s life, become part of a team working to build a stronger community and earn money at the same time,” he adds.

Throughout the month of April WCAP will offer a series of public information sessions for anyone interested in learning more about this opportunity:

· Wednesday, April 16th, 6 pm at the United Christian Church community room to the left of the chapel in the church, 30 Searsmont Rd in Lincolnville Center (Across from Lincolnville Telephone Company)
· Thursday, April 17th, 6 pm at Liberty Town Office, 7 Water Street in Liberty.
· Thursday, April 24th, 6 pm at Waldo Community Action Partners conference room, 9 Field Street in Belfast.
· Monday, April 28, 6 pm at the Unity Community Center, 32 School Street in Unity.

All sessions are open to anyone and will include an overview of Waldo Community Actions Partners and the Volunteer Driver Program. No registration is required.

In addition to the meetings above WCAP encourage local churches and volunteer organizations to contact them to schedule a presentation for their members at their location. For more information or if you are interested in becoming a driver, please call Lucy Salisbury at Tel: 207 338-6809.
