Waldo Community Action Partners, originally known as Waldo County Committee for Social Action, has been around since 1965 and is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

As part of that 50th anniversary celebration, WCAP has been revisiting much of its history with clients, volunteers, and partners. The agency was grateful to the Republican Journal this morning, when a small bit of its history surfaced in an installment of the newspaper’s Journal Files online.

The paragraph under February 27, 1969 read, “The first senior citizens center in Waldo County was opened in Belfast Monday under the co-sponsorship of the Waldo County Committee for Social Action and the Marine Corps League. Despite a blinding snowstorm, more than a dozen senior citizens over 55 years of age from Belfast and surrounding communities were on hand for the opening and were greeted by Belfast Mayor Asa O. Holmes.”
