COVID-19: WCAP offices closed to the public until March 30, essential services continue

March 16th, 2020

Dear Community Member,

For 55 years, Waldo Community Action Partners (WCAP) has held the firm belief that our community’s best interest should always remain at the core of our organization’s values. It is that very belief that has empowered us to respond proactively to the current challenges our state now faces relative to the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Late last week, Gov. Janet Mills announced that Maine has had its first presumptive case of the coronavirus. Since then, we learned that there has been an increasing number of cases. Given the rapidly changing situation in our nation and our state, and based on the advice of medical and government officials to help contain the spread of the virus, Waldo Community Action Partners is instituting the following measures, effective Tuesday, March 17, 2020:

All WCAP facilities will be closed to the general public for two weeks.

The welfare of those we serve is our number one priority. We will continue to monitor and assess this situation daily. As conditions shift, we will inform the community of any changes. In the meantime, our facilities are tentatively scheduled to reopen to the public on March 30, 2020.

At this time, to ensure due diligence to those we serve and our staff, WCAP will be canceling meetings and events through March 30, 2020 and recommending phone or video conferencing whenever possible. WCAP’s Cinderella Project of Maine prom dress giveaway events will be postponed until further notice.

WCAP will be canceling all meetings and scheduled events and recommending phone or video conferencing as an alternative. As things change, these plans will be reviewed and adjusted. Per the Maine Center for Disease Control’s recommendation to limit large gatherings of 250 people or more, WCAP’s Cinderella Project of Maine prom dress giveaway events scheduled for March 21 in Gardiner and April 4 in Belfast will be postponed until further notice.

The following WCAP services will continue to provide services via phone or electronic communication at a distance during the two weeks WCAP’s facilities are closed to the public, starting Tuesday, March 17, 2020:

– Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)
– Resource Advocacy (case management)
– Energy Savings Program
– Central Heating Improvement Program (CHIP) No Heat Services
– Early Childhood Program
– Navigator

The following essential program services will continue as identified in individual program plans, with special attention to pre-screening and modifications starting Tuesday, March 17, 2020 (this may be subject to change at any time):

– Transportation Services
– Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) By Appointment Only
– Home Repair
– Weatherization

WCAP recognizes that these are unsettling times for many and we appreciate your patience as we adjust to these unique, evolving circumstances. Thank you for your understanding and partnership. As always, we appreciate your support and commitment to our organization and the greater community.

Thank you,
