Keep the heat inside!

March 26th, 2015

The WCAP Housing department would like to spotlight a group of Waldo County residents who have started a Belfast Community Build window dresser project. The project works with other residents to build insulating window inserts to help keep the heat inside and lower heating costs by nearly 25%.

Window dressers insulating window inserts are custom-built wood frames wrapped in clear drum-tight polyolefin film. They are reusable year after year and cost only $2 per square foot. The cost of the window dressers is recovered in savings in the first year.

The project sends a team to your home to measure your windows for inserts and places your order. Payment is requested when you place your order. Special lower income pricing is available. You can also help by volunteering to make the inserts in the fall at the community build.

Window dressers is a community non-profit staffed by local volunteers helping to keep you warm while lowering your fuel bills. Interested parties should call to have their windows measured this spring. Project volunteers can be reached at (207) 596-3073 or by e-mail at info.windowdressers@gmail.com.

New Transportation Brochures Available

March 18th, 2015

They’re here and they’re easier to understand than ever. WCAP’s Transportation program has teamed up with the WCAP marketing department to bring you two new brochures. The first is a “Ride Guide”, explaining in a menu-like style what services are available through the program. The second brochure is a “Bus Routes” brochure, which will inform you of where and when you can get a ride through Waldo County Transportation in a much easier to navigate format.

To view the full brochures online, visit Transportation’s website by clicking here. Look for the two blue icons at the top – one for each of the new brochures. They can also be viewed by clicking one of the two thumbnails located below.

Or, if you’re the kind of person who likes to have something you can hold in your hands, stop by WCAP’s administrative office located at the Belfast Center, 9 Field Street, Suite 201 and our receptionist would be happy to provide them to you.

As always, if you have any questions, our Transportation program is available by calling (207) 338-4769 if you’re local to Belfast or toll-free at (800) 439-7865.

This week in 1969

March 3rd, 2015

Waldo Community Action Partners, originally known as Waldo County Committee for Social Action, has been around since 1965 and is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

As part of that 50th anniversary celebration, WCAP has been revisiting much of its history with clients, volunteers, and partners. The agency was grateful to the Republican Journal this morning, when a small bit of its history surfaced in an installment of the newspaper’s Journal Files online.

The paragraph under February 27, 1969 read, “The first senior citizens center in Waldo County was opened in Belfast Monday under the co-sponsorship of the Waldo County Committee for Social Action and the Marine Corps League. Despite a blinding snowstorm, more than a dozen senior citizens over 55 years of age from Belfast and surrounding communities were on hand for the opening and were greeted by Belfast Mayor Asa O. Holmes.”
